I have a Honda Wave 100 and I recently installed a new rear disc brake kit. New discs. New Nissin Calipers, New Nissin Master Cylinders. Do they normally don’t grip at first?

Did you bleed the system? If there’s air in the lines, the brakes won’t apply.

  1. I hope you cleaned the new disc before installation. They usually come with a protective oiled coating to prevent pre-sale rust. Oil is very bad for new brake linings.

  2. Assuming that you fitted some brake pads which you don’t mention, they probably need to be bedded in. Find a quiet road and do some braking. If you didn’t fit the pads they will never work.

  3. if you bought it brand new i think you have to ‘brake into it’ and then it will start working better

  4. You should get a noticeable braking effect. Before new pads have bedded in the braking effect may be less than normal but it will still be noticeable. If you can put the bike on a stand so that its rear wheel is off the ground, turn the wheel by hand and apply the brake. Your should feel very definite resistance when you apply the brake. If not then you need to recheck the installation that you have done.
